Code of Conduct

  • Be respectful and open to others with different backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures.
  • Exercise consideration and respect when communicating online and at in-person events.
  • Assume that others are acting with trust, honesty, and integrity. We come from different backgrounds, cultures, and situations. Ask for clarification before you judge.
  • Healthy, calm, good-faith debate is okay, but be ready to de-escalate or walk away if the conversation turns disrespectful or otherwise inappropriate.
    • Online conflicts (arguments that escalate beyond respectful discussion) should be removed from group spaces.
    • Don’t feed the trolls.
  • Don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know” or “I apologize.” We will make mistakes. It’s okay!
  • Remember you will most likely encounter the same people out in Federal Way, so be kind.
  • Don’t assume others’ identities. If you are unsure of how to address someone, use gender neutral pronouns or ask them directly.
  • Respect others’ physical boundaries at in-person meetups. Example: You may be comfortable with hugs, but others may not be. Always ask for consent before touching someone.
  • If an individual cannot abide by the code of conduct, they will be dismissed from the group, whether online or in person.
